STEAM and Sailing 10-14
For LMSS Sailors interested in learning the hows and whys of sailing
New offering for ages 10-14! This class will run full days for week-long sessions. With only 12 sailors per class, the instructors (with potential special guests) will lead the group in a sailing-related STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activity, then the group (led by instructors) will spend the rest of the day sailing around the lake on one of our 23’ Sonar Keelboats.
- STEAM activities may include, but are not limited to: learning about buoyancy by making clay boats, measuring sail area, using protractors to observe upwind sailing angles to understand the purpose of tacking, participating in simple machine scavanger hunts, and other fun activities and lessons
- Taught in 23′ Sonar Keelboats and on-land
- Sailing curriculum includes hands-on understanding points of sail, and sailing upwind and downwind through discussion, diagrams, and participation
- Class size is limited to 12 sailors per session
- Sign up for “Island Time” – the LMSS early drop-off/late pick-up program for drop-off as early as 8am and pickup as late as 4pm
