Little Skippers

Little Skippers is designed to get young sailors aged 5 - 6 comfortable understanding rigging and sailing basics, while gaining confidence on the water, and developing relationships with other young sailors of similar skill and experience.

Little Skippers is designed to support young sailors ages 5-6 in becoming comfortable with rigging and sailing basics while gaining confidence on the water and developing relationships with other young sailors of similar skill and experience level. Curriculum includes boat/water safety, understanding points of sail, practicing steering, and boat parts. Classes are short in length and offer a great starting point for LMSS Sailing programs.

  • Taught in 23′ Sonar Keelboats and Pram Sailboats (sessions 4, 6-7, fall)

    • Sonar keelboats allow 6 – 8 young sailors to participate together with an instructor on board

    • Pram sailboats allow 2 – 3 young sailors to continue to grow their sailing skills in a smaller, more independent boat

2025 Updates:

  • Sailors in a shortened session 4 (June 30-July 2, 9:30am – 12pm) will be able to sail Pram Sailboats

  • Summer sessions 7-8 will take place from 5:00pm – 7:00pm (M-F) and will be for returning sailors who have completed the Little Skippers class earlier in the summer. Sailors will sail in Pram sailboats and continue to expand their sailing skills.- Spring/Fall session class size is limited to 14 sailors per session
